Pubs, Shops and Restaurants

Beck View Cottage is in an elevated position just above the village of Glenridding. The cottage is just a few hundred yards from the nearest pub, The Travellers Rest, which serves a selection of real ales and excellent food throughout the day. It’s worth checking opening times in the winter.

Glenridding also has 2 local convenience stores, Catstycam, a great shop selling all kinds of outdoor equipment, several cafes and restaurants, including Fellbites. There is also a Tourist Information Centre in the Car Park in the village. Glenridding also has its own garage which has an excellent repair centre should the need arise.

Patterdale is just ½ mile down the road and has the excellent Patterdale Village Store and Post Office. Patterdale also has another hotel, the local school and a CofE Church.

Windermere, Keswick and Penrith are all about 30 minutes drive away from the cottage.

Things to do

The cottage is literally nestled in the foothills of Helvellyn itself and the area has a wonderful selection of other fells with some beautiful walks including St Sunday Crag, Fairfield and Grisedale Tarn, and to the east Place Fell and up to Angle Tarn.

No trip to the area would be complete without going on the famous Ullswater Steamers, which run regularly from Glenridding to Howtown and Pooley Bridge.

Glenridding is also home to the Glenridding Sailing Centre, which offers boats and Kayaks for hire, as well as excellent sailing tuition.

There are a number of National Trust properties and attractions nearby, including Aira Force waterfall to the north, and Townend Country House to the West near Windermere.

There is an activity centre at Rookin House Farm, which offers horse riding, archery, quad bikes and much more.
